What is Skylift?
Forget just observing the skyline – Skylift places you directly in it.
Skylift is an open-air, circular platform that rises 30 feet (9.1 meters) above the Top of the Rock’s 70th-floor observation deck, offering unobstructed 360-degree views that will leave you speechless.
It is a three-and-a-half-minute experience that gently extends toward the sky, then slowly rotates to offer a 360-degree view encompassing four boroughs and New Jersey.
From the Empire State Building to Central Park, the Hudson River to the Bronx, you’ll feel as if you were floating among the city’s greatest highs.
The combination of the open air, gentle motion, and soaring height creates a sense of awe and wonder that will stay with you long after you’ve descended back to earth.
Skylift sits on the west side of Top of the Rock’s 70th-floor Observation Deck, with an elevator taking visitors to the very top.
Best time to go up on the Skylift
The most magical time to go up on Skylift is around sunset and into the evening.
Skylift has a special light show of its own as the sun sets and the city lights begin to glow.
If you’re on Skylift during the light show, you’re not just witnessing it—you’re part of the show!
What to wear on Skylift
You can visit Skylift in casual attire, but since the experience is fully open-air, preparing for the wind at such high altitudes is important.
Be sure to securely fasten any loose items like hats or scarves. Small bags, such as fanny packs or totes, are allowed, but it’s best to leave larger bags at home.
Remember that the Skylift features a clear floor, so wear pants, shorts, or tights during your visit.

You’re welcome to capture your own photos with handheld devices, but at the peak of the Skylift experience, a professional video is recorded with the stunning NYC skyline as your backdrop. After the ride, you can scan a QR code to access and view the personalized videos and photos, which are also available for purchase at the Top of the Rock Gift Shop.
Is Skylift included in the Top of the Rock tickets?
The regular Top of the Rock tickets and VIP Pass do not come with access to Skylift. You need to purchase it separately once you are at the venue.
