Why you should buy The Edge Express ticket
The Edge is one of New York City’s top attractions, welcoming around 2 million visitors annually. It sees 5,500 guests daily, soaring to 10,000 per day during peak tourist season.
This means long wait times, especially during peak hours.
A General Admission ticket requires waiting in line for entry and elevators, which can take 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the time of day.
The Edge Express Pass eliminates this hassle by letting you skip the regular line and head straight to the observation deck.

Best time to use The Edge Express Pass
The Edge Express Ticket is most useful during peak seasons, weekends, and holidays when visitor numbers are highest.
- Touristy months (April–September) – Schools are out, and tourist crowds are at their peak.
- Holidays & weekends – Expect longer wait times during Christmas, New Year’s, and public holidays.
- Sunset hours – One of the busiest times at The Edge, as visitors flock to capture breathtaking views.
Express Ticket vs. General Admission – which ticket should you buy?
If you are deciding between a General Admission Ticket and The Edge Express Pass, here is what you need to know:
- The Express Ticket lets you skip the regular lines at the entrance, security, and elevator, getting you to the top faster.
- With the General Admission ticket, you will join the queue at all three of these places, thus extending your visit time by 30 to 60 minutes.
- For a family of four, the extra cost of Express Tickets can save up to four hours of waiting time.
- If you’re short on time, the Express Ticket is worth the price to maximize your experience.
- If you’re on a budget or visiting during off-peak hours, the General Admission ticket is a better option. You don’t need to waste your money on the Express Pass.
Upgrading a Standard Ticket to an Express Ticket
Some visitors start with a General Admission ticket, only to realize that the long wait times make upgrading to an Edge Express Ticket worthwhile.
How to upgrade
Step 1: Purchase a General Admission Edge ticket
Step 2: Go to Guest Services on the day of your visit to upgrade your ticket to an Express Pass. The Guest Services are on Level 4 of The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards.
Step 3: The Edge Ambassadors will work their magic and “credit” your Express Pass purchase with the price of your General Admission ticket.
Step 4: Pay the difference between the full value of your General ticket and your Express Pass.
Confused? Let’s say you paid $45 for an Edge General Admission ticket, and the Express ticket costs $96, you will have to pay the difference of $51 for the upgrade.
Since only a limited number of Express Tickets are sold each day, it’s always best to buy in advance to guarantee priority access.
